Marlene Orton

November 1, 1958 — March 17, 2026

It is with profound sadness and deep gratitude for her life that we announce the passing of Marlene Orton, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Marlene left this world peacefully on March 17, 2026, at the age of 67, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 1, 1958, Marlene was the beloved daughter of the late Mary and Bernard Heine. She grew up with her brother, Kevin Heine, who predeceased her, and shared a close bond with her parents, whose values and love she carried throughout her life. Marlene devoted her life to serving others, first through her compassionate work as a health care aid, and later as a dedicated firefighter for 24 years. During her last six years in the fire department, she transitioned to administrative duties, where her organizational skills and caring nature continued to serve her community. Her career reflected her deep commitment to helping others, and she was admired by many for her unwavering dedication and strength. On a personal level, Marlene was married to her adoring husband, Darrell Orton, for 37 wonderful years. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared passions. Marlene loved to spend her free time in the garden, nurturing plants and then using her fresh produce to create delicious baked goods. She also cherished the peaceful moments spent fishing with Darrell, finding joy and solace in the simple beauty of nature. Marlene's honesty, hard work, and caring nature were hallmarks of her personality. She was never afraid to speak her mind, providing guidance and support to those around her with a frank, yet loving approach. Her kindness and integrity left an indelible mark on all who knew her, and her legacy of love and service will be carried on by her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Darrell, and her four beloved children: Tom Dawson, Jody Dawson, Nick Orton, and Penny Orton. Marlene's warmth and wisdom also extended to her six grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She took immense joy in watching them grow and cherished every moment spent together. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Alberta Health Services for the compassionate home care provided to Marlene during her final days. Your support and kindness brought comfort to Marlene and her family, for which they are eternally grateful. Marlene Orton's life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and a generous spirit. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. As we say goodbye, we hold onto the lessons she taught us and the love she shared so freely. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the local fire department or a charity of your choice, in honor of Marlene's lifelong dedication to helping others. A private family service will be held to celebrate Marlene’s life, with a public memorial to be planned at a later date.
