July 4, 1934 — April 21, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marlene Louise Kwortnik, who departed this world on April 21, 2026, at Abington Hospital, just shy of her 92nd birthday. Born on July 4, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Marlene's life was a testament to resilience, warmth, and unyielding love. She passed peacefully surrounded by her children, leaving behind a legacy that will echo through generations. Marlene was the daughter of Ernest Paul Kallenbach and Gertrude Herbst Kerr. She married Michael Joseph Kwortnik on September 10, 1955, in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, after he returned from serving in Korea. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, raising six wonderful children. A devoted mother and grandmother, Marlene is survived by her sister Beverly Lutz, her daughters Janice (Kwortnik) Teti and her husband John, Joan, Judy, and her son Matthew Kwortnik. She was the proud grandmother to nine grandchildren: John Teti Jr., Allison Flounders, Joshua Teti, Michael and Erin Kwortnik, Mark Kwortnik and Carey (Kwortnik) Welsh, and Kyle and Ryan Kwortnik. Her legacy further extends to her six great-grandchildren: Leo and Mac Flounders, Ava Teti, Harley and Logan Welsh, and Cole Kwortnik. Marlene's life was enriched by the presence of her two loving daughters-in-law: Jane and Colleen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Educated at Jenkintown High School, class of 1952, Marlene pursued her passion for nursing, graduating with an RN from the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. Her nursing career spanned various fields including hospital, home care, and skilled nursing, culminating in her cherished industrial nurse position at SPS. Even after retiring, Marlene's desire to connect with people led her to a part-time role at Giant Grocery Store, where she became a beloved member of the community. Marlene's vibrant personality was a true reflection of her Independence Day birth and "firecracker personality". She loved rooting for the Eagles and her disdain for the Dallas Cowboys were legendary among family and friends. She found solace in the beauty of the Pocono Mountains, frequently retreating to her Lake Naomi home, always welcoming visitors with open arms. Her passion for gardening mirrored the care and nurturing she provided to everyone around her. In later years, she was a familiar and enthusiastic presence at her grandchildren's sports events, offering support and love as only a grandmother can. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Ernette, her husband Michael Joseph, her sons Mark Allen and Michael Ernest, her brother-in-law Joseph Lutz, and her dear friend Janet Powell. Her life was a mosaic of love and strength, deeply rooted in family and friendship, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. A celebration of Marlene's life will be held on May 16, 2026, at 12:00 PM at the VFW. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Marlene's honor to the Wolf Conservation Center or the Sierra Club, causes close to her heart. Donations can be made online by dedicating the gift in Marlene’s name, and including a personal message if desired. More information regarding the donation process can be found at www.nywolf.org and www.sierraclub.com. Marlene Louise Kwortnik leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion. Her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will forever be remembered for her warmth, strength, and the love she shared so freely.
