With profound sadness and deep respect, we announce the passing of Mark Thomas Hoover, a beloved son, father, brother, grandfather, and cherished partner, who left us peacefully at his home on June 7, 2026. Mark was a guiding light to all who knew him, and his memory will be eternally cherished by family and friends alike.
Mark was born on October 31, 1959, in Gaston County to Henry and Betty Lutz Hoover. From a young age, Mark exhibited a passion for life and a dedication to his community. He graduated from East Gaston High School in 1977, setting the foundation for a life filled with hard work and service.
For many years, Mark worked diligently at Aplix as a maintenance supervisor. His career was marked by integrity, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to excellence that earned him the respect of colleagues and friends. Beyond his professional life, Mark dedicated more than 45 years to the East Gaston Fire Department, where his courage and dedication made a lasting impact on the community. He was also a devoted member of Christ Lutheran Church in Stanley, where he worshipped and served faithfully.
Mark was a man of many passions. He found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as riding his Harley Davidson through the winding roads of North Carolina, a pastime that brought him peace and freedom. He was also a talented cook, known for preparing delicious meals for his loved ones. Gardening was another of his cherished hobbies, and he took great pride in nurturing his garden, a testament to his love for nature. Mark was also a dedicated beekeeper, understanding the importance of preserving the delicate balance of our ecosystem.
Known for his blunt and straightforward nature, Mark was a man set in his ways. Yet, beneath his forthright demeanor lay a heart full of warmth and generosity. His honesty was a guiding principle in his life, and he was deeply respected for his authenticity and unwavering principles.
Mark is survived by his loving mother, Betty Lutz Hoover, who was his lifelong support and inspiration. He leaves behind his children, Jessica Hoover Clemmer and her husband Joe, and Mark Thomas Hoover Jr., who were the pride of his life. He was a doting grandfather to four wonderful grandchildren, Harlan, Niall, Jovie, and Kollins Clemmer, who brought immense joy to his days. His cherished partner, Janet Reinhardt, known affectionately as "his sweetie," was a steadfast companion who shared in his life's journey. Mark is also survived by his brothers, Bruce E. Hoover and wife Sharon, and David Hoover and wife Lisa, who were his lifelong confidants and friends.
Mark was predeceased by his father, Henry Edward Hoover, with whom he is now reunited in eternal peace.
A service to honor and celebrate Mark's life will be held on June 13, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Christ Lutheran Church, located at 203 S Main Street, Stanley, NC 28164. Friends and family are invited to gather and share in the memories of a life well-lived.
