September 19, 1948 — April 20, 2026

It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Mark Steven Manion on April 20, 2026, at the age of 77. Mark departed this world at Sanford ICU, where he valiantly battled pneumonia. Our deepest thanks go out to the compassionate staff at Sanford for their dedicated care in Mark's final days. Mark was born on September 19, 1948, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Though he never knew his birth parents, Steven and Edna Manion, who predeceased him, Mark's life was enriched by the love and support of his foster family. He found a home at LITE Inc., where his foster mom and the dedicated staff became his family, nurturing him with love and kindness throughout the years. Mark is survived by several cousins who cherished their time spent with him over the years. These relationships were a testament to Mark's innate ability to connect with others and find family in unexpected places. His foster family at LITE Inc. and his community of friends stood by him, forming bonds that transcended the traditional definitions of kinship. Professionally, Mark dedicated many years of service to KMart, where he was known for his unwavering work ethic and willingness to lend a hand wherever needed. His colleagues and customers alike appreciated his warmth and reliability, qualities that made him an indispensable part of the team. Mark's life was a tapestry woven with community involvement and personal passions. An active member of the Bemidji Jaycees, Mark delighted in helping prepare for the annual water carnival, an event that brought joy to many. In his later years, he found solace and triumph in the organization "Fishing Has No Boundaries," where his enthusiasm for the sport earned him trophies for both the biggest fish and the first fish in separate years. A true aficionado of the golden age of westerns, Mark amassed an impressive collection of VHS tapes and DVDs featuring iconic figures such as Gene Autry, the Singing Cowboy, The Lone Ranger, Sergeant Preston, and Hopalong Cassidy. As his eyesight waned, Mark's passion never dimmed; he meticulously recorded his favorite westerns onto audio cassettes, allowing him to continue enjoying the stories and characters that had captured his imagination for so long. Mark Steven Manion was a man of simple joys and profound connections. His life serves as a reminder of the enduring power of community and the ability to create family through love and shared experiences. While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the indelible mark he left on the hearts of those who knew him. A private memorial service will be held in his honor, where friends and family will gather to reminisce and celebrate the life of a beloved man who lived with integrity, kindness, and an unyielding spirit. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mark's memory to "Fishing Has No Boundaries" to continue his legacy of community involvement and joy. Rest in peace, dear Mark. Your journey may have ended, but your spirit will continue to live on in the stories and hearts of those you touched.
