In Loving Memory

Mark Rothwell
December 31, 1961 — March 3, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mark Rothwell, a cherished husband, brother, and friend, who left us on March 3, 2026, after a brave and prolonged battle with congestive heart failure. Mark's journey began on December 31, 1961, in Detroit, Michigan, born to his loving parents, George and Doris Rothwell, who have predeceased him and now welcome him into their eternal embrace.
Mark lived a life filled with passion, resilience, and a dedication to serving others. He was a proud graduate of Bonita High School in La Verne, California. His thirst for knowledge and service led him to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Science from Crafton Hills College, along with a California Peace Officers certification from Victor Valley College, and numerous other esteemed certificates.
His career with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection began in 1980 as a seasonal firefighter. By 1983, Mark's remarkable dedication and skill earned him a full-time position, and two years later, he was promoted to Fire Apparatus Engineer. In 1989, Mark took a bold step to pursue entrepreneurship, starting his own business in oversize transportation and trucking. Despite challenges and the eventual closure of his business in 2003, Mark's spirit remained unbroken. He embraced a new path as a full-time truck driver, showcasing his resilience and adaptability until his retirement in 2020 due to a heart operation.
Mark married the love of his life, Shelly, in the spring of 2019. Their seven years of marriage were filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Shelly survives him, along with his devoted brothers, Dave and Paul, who stood by him through every triumph and challenge.
Outside of work, Mark found joy and relaxation in his hobbies. He was happiest near the water, where he spent countless hours boating, a pastime that brought him peace and happiness. His fascination with remote-controlled boats and cars was infectious, and he took immense pride in his meticulously crafted silver Jeep, a miniature version of his cherished real one.
A service to celebrate Mark's life will be held on March 7, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Lutheran Church in Albany, Oregon. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Mark are invited to join in honoring his memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association, a cause close to Mark's heart. The family also extends their deepest gratitude to the doctors and staff at Samaritan Regional Hospital for their compassionate care and dedication during Mark's battle for life.
Mark Rothwell leaves behind a legacy of courage, kindness, and a love that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. Though he may have departed from this world, his spirit and the memories he created will remain with us always.
