Mark Pomeroy, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and veteran, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on December 15, 1951, in Morgantown, West Virginia, Mark was the cherished son of Brenice and Lester Pomeroy. His life was a testament to dedication, service, and the profound love he had for his family and country. Mark's journey began in Morgantown, where he graduated from Morgantown High School in 1969. Shortly thereafter, he embarked on a distinguished career in the United States Army, serving with honor and reaching the rank of Sergeant. His tenure in the military saw him bravely serve in both the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm, committing over 20 years of his life to protecting the nation he dearly loved. In 1971, Mark married the love of his life, Kathy, in a heartfelt ceremony in Morgantown. Their union was a beacon of love and companionship, spanning 54 wonderful years. Together, they nurtured a family filled with warmth and joy, raising two cherished children, Jonathan and Brandy. Mark's legacy continues through his children and his beloved granddaughter, Sophie, who brought immense joy to his later years. Mark was not only a devoted family man but also a cherished sibling to his brothers Jerry and John Pomeroy, and his sister, Rebecca Schiffbauer. His family remembers him as a man of great integrity, whose laughter and stories brought life to every gathering. A service to honor Mark's extraordinary life will be held on September 4, 2026, at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery, located at 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29223. Family, friends, and all whose lives he touched are invited to join in celebrating his legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Mark's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization that held a special place in his heart. This gesture ensures that his spirit of service and care for his fellow veterans will continue to make a difference.
