Mark Pomeroy

Mark Pomeroy, a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather, passed away on July 25, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on December 15, 1951, in Morgantown, West Virginia, Mark was the cherished son of Brenice and Lester Pomeroy. He spent his formative years in Morgantown, graduating from Morgantown High in 1969, where he cultivated lifelong friendships and a deep appreciation for his community. In 1970, Mark answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. His dedication and bravery led him to serve in both the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm, achieving the esteemed rank of Master Sergeant. Mark's commitment to his fellow soldiers and his unwavering bravery were hallmarks of his military career, earning him the respect and admiration of all who served alongside him. On September 13, 1971, Mark married the love of his life, Kathy Fisher, in their beloved hometown of Morgantown. Their union, which spanned 54 wonderful years, was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they raised two adoring children, Brandy and Jonathan, instilling in them values of kindness, integrity, and service. Mark's role as a father was one of his greatest joys, and he took immense pride in the accomplishments and character of his children. As a grandfather, Mark found a new kind of joy in his granddaughter, Sophie Pomeroy. He cherished every moment spent with her. Mark's family extended beyond his immediate circle, as he was a beloved brother to Jerry and John Pomeroy, and Rebecca Schiffbauer, each of whom held a special place in his heart. Mark's life was one marked by service, love, and dedication. His legacy is one of strength, compassion, and unwavering loyalty to those he held dear. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him. A memorial service to honor Mark's life will be held on September 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, located at 4170 Percival Rd, Columbia, SC 29223. Friends and family are invited to join together in remembrance of a remarkable man who touched so many lives. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Mark's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization that reflects his lifelong commitment to supporting his fellow veterans.
