Mark Steven Bennett

Mark Bennett, born on February 3, 1954, in the welcoming town of Metropolis, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home on August 18, 2026. He was a beloved father, a dedicated educator, and a man whose warmth and compassion touched everyone he met. Mark was the cherished son of the late Donald and Joann Bennett, whose love and guidance shaped the gracious man he became. Mark's journey in education began at Massac County High School, from which he graduated in 1972. His passion for learning and teaching took him to Murray State University, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education. He furthered his expertise at Western Kentucky University, obtaining a rank one and multiple educational certifications. His commitment to education was unwavering, and he devoted over 30 years of his life to enriching the minds of students within the Logan County Schools, serving in various administrative roles with integrity and dedication. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mark was a man of rich interests and gentle hobbies. An avid bird watcher, he found joy and tranquility in the natural world, often spending hours observing the beauty and grace of the birds around him. This hobby reflected his own gentle spirit and appreciation for the simple pleasures of life. Mark's greatest pride and joy were his children, Andrea Bennett of Denver, Colorado, and Steven Bennett of Lexington, Kentucky. As a dedicated father, he instilled in them the values of kindness, perseverance, and love. His legacy lives on through them, in the lives they lead and the values they uphold. A graveside family service to honor Mark's life will be held on August 26, 2026, at 1:00 PM, in Benton, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Mark's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting the spirit of giving that he embodied throughout his life. Mark Bennett's life was a testament to the power of education, the beauty of nature, and the strength of familial love. He will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
