In Loving Memory
Mark Gilbert
September 5, 1969 — April 5, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mark Gilbert, a beloved husband, brother, and friend, on April 5, 2026, at his cherished sanctuary, Antelope Island State Park. Born on September 5, 1969, in Bountiful, Utah, Mark was the cherished son of the late Wayne Gilbert and Leah (Jackie) Reynolds Purdy. He was also predeceased by his stepmother Caroldynn Gilbert and stepfather David Purdy.
Mark's journey through life was one marked by love, adventure, and an unwavering dedication to family and friends. He is survived by his devoted wife, Shelly Gilbert, with whom he shared 24 wonderful years of marriage. Their union, celebrated on January 11, 2002, in Tooele, Utah, was a testament to a shared passion for exploration, as they built a life rich with laughter, love, and countless camping adventures.
Mark's career spanned 26 years at FedEx Freight, where he retired on December 31, 2025. His work ethic and commitment were as steadfast as his love for the great outdoors. Prior to settling in Tooele County, Mark and Shelly embarked on explorations along the Pony Express Trails and the Lincoln Highway, adventures that eventually led them to their new home, where they continued to embrace the beauty of Utah's desert landscapes.
Mark's weekends were often filled with the company of dear friends, gathering firewood, riding ATVs, and sharing laughter around the campfire on the Pony Express. These cherished friendships formed the fabric of his life, creating memories that will forever be treasured by those who had the privilege of joining him on these excursions.
A man of diverse interests, Mark seamlessly combined his love for golfing with camping, often embarking on trips with his brother Kevin and sister-in-law Cheri to explore Utah's state parks. These adventures, though deeply missed, have left indelible memories of joy and camaraderie.
With brother Steve and sister-in-law Marilynn, Mark found delight in the simple pleasures of picking wildflowers and getting "lost" in the wilderness, turning each moment into an adventure filled with humor and heart.
Mark's heart was as generous as it was adventurous. Ever willing to lend a hand, he was known for his readiness to help, whether it was moving furniture or towing travel trailers for repair. To him, every act of kindness was an opportunity to touch the lives of those around him.
Above all, Mark found his greatest solace on Antelope Island, a place he lovingly referred to as his peaceful haven. It was here, amidst the natural beauty and wildlife he so adored, that he spent many reflective days and ultimately found his final resting place.
Mark is also survived by his brothers Charles Gilbert, Steve (Marilynn) Gilbert, and Kevin (Cheri) Gilbert. The love and memories they shared will forever remain a source of comfort and inspiration.
As we gather to celebrate Mark's remarkable life, we invite all who knew him to share in the stories, laughter, and love that defined his time with us. His spirit will forever echo in the rustling leaves of Antelope Island and in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to call him family and friend.
Rest in peace, dear Mark. Your journey may have ended, but your legacy of love, laughter, and adventure will live on in our hearts.
