In Loving Memory of Mark Gilbert It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mark Gilbert, a cherished husband, brother, and friend, who left this world peacefully on April 5, 2026, at his most beloved sanctuary, Antelope Island State Park. Born on September 5, 1969, in Bountiful, Utah, Mark was a beacon of kindness, adventure, and unwavering support to all who knew him. Mark was the beloved son of the late Wayne Gilbert and Leah (Jackie) Reynolds Purdy. He was warmly embraced into the loving hearts of his stepmother, the late Caroldynn Gilbert, and his stepfather, the late David Purdy. He is survived by his devoted wife, Shelly Gilbert, with whom he shared a beautiful journey of love and companionship for 24 years, marked by shared laughter and countless camping adventures. Mark's life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and the spirit of exploration. He began his career with FedEx Freight, dedicating 26 years to the company before taking a well-deserved retirement on December 31, 2025. His work ethic and dedication were admired by colleagues and friends alike. A true adventurer at heart, Mark's love for the great outdoors was evident in his passion for exploring the Pony Express Trails and the Lincoln Highway. This passion ultimately led him and Shelly to Tooele County, a place they called home, allowing them to continue their explorations and share the joy of camping with dear friends. Weekends were often spent gathering firewood, enjoying ATV rides, and participating in fence line excursions, creating a community of friends who will forever hold these memories close to their hearts. Mark's zest for life extended to his love of golfing, often combining it with camping and ATV trips. These cherished outings with his brother Kevin and sister-in-law Cheri took them to many breathtaking Utah state parks. The laughter and camaraderie shared on these trips will be deeply missed, but the memories will forever be treasured. Above all, Antelope Island State Park was Mark's haven, his place of peace and reflection. It was here that he found solace among the island's natural beauty and wildlife, and it is here that his spirit will forever reside. Mark had a heart as expansive as the landscapes he loved to explore. Always ready to lend a helping hand, whether relocating homes, moving items upstairs, or transporting travel trailers to be fixed, Mark's generosity and willingness to help others will remain a testament to his character. Mark is survived by his brothers, Charles Gilbert, Steve (Marilynn) Gilbert, and Kevin (Cheri) Gilbert, who will carry forward his legacy of love and adventure. In honoring Mark's life, we celebrate a man whose kindness knew no bounds, whose spirit embraced the wonders of the world, and whose love for his family and friends was the cornerstone of his existence. A celebration of Mark's life will be held at a later date, allowing all who knew and loved him to gather, share stories, and find comfort in the warmth of his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Mark's spirit by exploring the trails, camping under the stars, and cherishing the beauty of nature, just as he did. Mark Gilbert's adventurous soul now rests in eternal peace, surrounded by the landscapes he adored. His memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who loved him.
