With heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for the life he lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Mark DiPaolo on August 29, 2026, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family. Born on September 22, 1967, in Brooklyn, New York, Mark was a beacon of strength, dedication, and compassion to all who knew him.
Mark was the cherished son of the late Donato and Joan DiPaolo, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms. He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Catherine, with whom he shared a beautiful journey, raising two loving daughters, Michelle and Allison. Mark also leaves behind his son-in-law, Christopher, and his faithful poodle, Cooper. He was a devoted brother to Edward and his wife Kim, Lucy and her husband Marco, and Donato and his wife Christine. His father-in-law, Salvatore Carrado, also survives him, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who held him dear.
Mark’s educational journey took him from St. Peter’s Boys High School, where he graduated in 1985, to Pace University, where he completed his undergraduate studies in 1989. His thirst for knowledge and dedication to public service led him to earn a Master’s degree while serving in the NYPD—a testament to his commitment to excellence.
Mark dedicated 33 years of his life to the New York Police Department, serving the city he loved from 1990 until his retirement in 2023. Rising to the rank of Inspector, he was admired for his diligence, integrity, and unwavering dedication to public safety. His colleagues and friends in the NYPD community remember him as a steadfast protector and a hero in their ranks.
Outside his professional life, Mark was a man of many passions. He loved staying active, often found working out, and was happiest when surrounded by his family. His vibrant spirit, fun-loving nature, and caring heart made him the cornerstone of his family—a hero not only in his professional life but also at home.
His wake will be held at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals (located 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10312) on September 2, 2026 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated on September 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea, located at 5371 Amboy Road, Staten Island, NY 10312. Friends and family are invited to gather in honor of Mark’s life and legacy.
The DiPaolo family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff of Memorial Sloan Kettering, Mt. Sinai Hospital, and Addeo Hospice House for the exceptional care they provided during Mark’s final months. They also wish to thank the NYPD community for their unwavering support during this difficult time.
Mark’s light continues to shine through the countless lives he touched. He will be dearly missed but forever remembered with love and admiration.
