Mark Burris

October 29, 1968 — June 1, 2026

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mark Burris, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Mark departed this world peacefully on June 1, 2026, at the age of 57, after a courageous battle with a lifelong illness. His journey began in the charming town of Galesburg, Illinois, where he was born on October 29, 1968, to the late Larry and Kay Burris, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms into the next chapter of his existence. Mark's life was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering dedication to his family. He was a devoted husband to Susan, with whom he shared an extraordinary 50-year marriage. Together, they created a life filled with laughter, love, and countless cherished memories. Their union blessed them with two wonderful daughters, Abbey Haack and Emily Burris, who carry forward the legacy of their father's kindness and strength. A proud alumnus of Western Illinois University, Mark graduated with a bachelor's degree, which laid the foundation for a fulfilling career that allowed him to provide for his family while pursuing his passions. Mark was a man of simple pleasures and found joy in the great outdoors. His love for hunting and fishing was not just a hobby, but a way of life that connected him to the serenity of nature and the thrill of the chase. These moments spent in the wilderness were shared with family and friends, creating bonds that would last a lifetime. Mark's greatest joy, however, was his role as a grandfather to two precious grandchildren. They were the light of his life, and he delighted in every moment spent with them, passing down wisdom and creating memories that will be cherished for generations. In addition to his wife Susan, daughters Abbey and Emily, and two grandchildren, Mark is survived by countless friends and extended family who were touched by his kindness, humor, and generous spirit. He was predeceased by his loving parents, Larry and Kay Burris, as well as his dear nephew, Ryan, whom he held close in his heart. Mark's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit will continue to live on in the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the love he bestowed. His life was a testament to the power of love and the importance of family, and he will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. A celebration of Mark's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends can gather to honor a man who truly made the world a better place. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Mark's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting his generous spirit and commitment to making a difference. May Mark Burris rest in peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will be forever remembered.
