Born on November 6, 1944, in South Bend, Indiana, Marjie was a beacon of warmth and kindness to all who knew her. Her life was a testament to resilience, creativity, and unwavering devotion to her family and passions. Marjie was the cherished daughter of Calvin and Dorothy Reynolds, who predeceased her, alongside her brother, Thomas Reynolds, and her beloved sons, David and Matthew Shoemaker. She is survived by her devoted husband, Michael Shoemaker, with whom she shared a beautiful marriage of nearly 59 years, having wed on August 26, 1967. Her sister, Nancy Reynolds, remains to cherish the memories and legacy Marjie leaves behind. A proud alumna of Mishawaka High School, class of 1962, and Indiana University, class of 1966, Marjie was a woman of intellect and determination. Her career was as varied as it was impressive. She began as a tenacious reporter for the San Bernardino Sun Telegram and the Seattle Post Intelligencer, where her words captured the essence of human stories. Later, she shared her love for the written word as an educator at the Overlake School in Redmond, Washington, and as a writing instructor at the University of Washington, inspiring countless students. Her creative spirit also thrived in the world of advertising, where she served as an advertising director at the Sterling Recreation Organization and Bill Laneese Advertising. Marjie was a gifted writer, leaving behind a rich literary legacy with her published works: "The Starlite Drive-in," "The Civil Wars of Jonah Moran," "For the Love of Ethan," and "Ideal Beach." Her stories, much like her life, were filled with depth, emotion, and a touch of magic that resonated with readers. An avid knitter and quilter, Marjie found joy in creating beautiful pieces that warmed both body and soul. Her outgoing personality and unyielding loyalty to her family and friends were hallmarks of her character, making every gathering brighter and every friendship deeper. Marjie was a long-time member of the Oregon Writers Colony, where she found camaraderie and inspiration among fellow writers. Her contributions to this community were as significant as the friendships she cultivated there. In honor of Marjie's life and her enduring spirit, the family has chosen to hold a private funeral ceremony.
