In Loving Memory

Marjorie Anna Hegland
January 2, 1936 — June 15, 2026
It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Marjorie Anna Hegland, who left this world peacefully in the comfort of her home on June 15, 2026. Marjorie was born on January 2, 1936, in the small town of Fertile, Minnesota, a place that would forever hold her heart and shape her gentle and nurturing spirit.
Marjorie was the eldest daughter of Melvin and Alice Johnson. Her childhood in Fertile was filled with warmth, laughter, and the kind of community values that would later define her own life. She excelled academically, graduating as the valedictorian from McIntosh High School, where she demonstrated a remarkable balance between her studies and various jobs, all while maintaining the poise and grace that would become her hallmark.
On January 22, 1955, Marjorie married the love of her life, Loren Hegland, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston, Minnesota. Their union was a testament to enduring love and commitment, spanning an incredible 71 years. Together, they built a family founded on a strong fabric of love and mutual respect, raising three children: John Mark Hegland, Diane (David) Modrynski, and Bruce Hegland, who, along with his wife Laurie Siegal, carry forward her legacy of kindness and compassion.
Marjorie was an active and cherished member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she devoted countless hours volunteering, coordinating Sunday school, and participating in numerous events. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and she shared it generously with all who knew her.
A woman of many interests, Marjorie found great joy in spending time with her family, particularly her seven grandchildren—Adam, Amber & Sam, Betsy & Drew, Chelsie & Jim, J.D. & Jamie, Whitney & Dan—and 15 great-grandchildren. Her home was a haven of love, laughter, and endless puzzles, with each visit leaving cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of those she loved.
Marjorie's later years saw her passion for latch hooking and puzzle-solving flourish, with ever more intricate designs and larger pieces, symbolizing her love for life's complexities and the satisfaction of bringing them together.
Known for her unwavering kindness, Marjorie never uttered a harsh word and possessed an unmatched positivity. Her presence was a balm to all who met her, with her gentle efforts always directed toward making things better for everyone around her.
Marjorie is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Loren; her children and their families; her brother, Melvin Johnson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She is predeceased by her parents, Melvin Sr. and Alice Johnson, her sister Hazel Rost, and her brother Jerry Johnson.
While we mourn the loss of Marjorie, we celebrate a life that was rich with love, faith, and service. Her legacy is one of warmth, understanding, and an unwavering belief in the goodness of people. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate to know and love her.
A celebration of Marjorie's life will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, with details to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the church she loved so dearly.
Marjorie Anna Hegland's life was a beautiful tapestry of love and devotion, and while she may have left this earthly realm, her spirit remains forever in our hearts.
