Marion Van Aken

Marion Van Aken, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home. Born on January 18, 1941, in Hobart, New York,
Marion was the cherished daughter of Stanton and Dorothy (Foote) Harper. Her formative years were spent in Stamford, where she graduated from Stamford Central School in 1960, followed by beauty school in 1961.
On May 26, 1962, Marion married the love of her life, Herbert George Van Aken. Marion was a devoted partner to Herbert, who predeceased her, as were her parents and siblings Fred Harper and Beverly Drahos. Their partnership thrived both on the family farm and in the many endeavors they pursued together, including their active participation in the Grange.
Marion ran a beauty shop for many years. Her career also included fulfilling roles at Robinson Terrace, Christman’s Windham House, and Hunter Mountain.
An active member of the Grand Gorge Methodist Church, Marion's faith was a guiding force throughout her life and her angelic voice graced the church choir. Her participation in church activities and her unwavering faith were a testament to her generous spirit and devotion.
Marion's greatest joy came from her family. She is survived by her loving children: Susan (Michael) Dorrance, Gary Van Aken, Wendy (Ralph) Sprague, and Dawn (Kevin) Cook. Her legacy is carried forward by her cherished grandchildren: Gregory ,Benjamin and, Nicholas Dorrance, Samantha (Philip) Mackey, Stacey Sprague, and Sophia (Autumn) Wolfram. She also is survived by 6 adored great grandchildren.
Her viewing will be held from 10:00 - 12:00 PM at Hynes Funeral Home, located on Main Street in Roxbury, NY with burial services in Grand Gorge Cemetery immediately afterwards. Friends and family are invited to gather to honor the life of a remarkable woman who touched the hearts of all who knew her.
