August 13, 1955 — June 10, 2026

With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the peaceful passing of Marion Best Odell on June 10, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on August 13, 1955, in Raleigh, North Carolina, Marion was a beacon of love and strength, whose compassion touched the lives of many. Her courageous spirit remained steadfast as she bravely faced a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Marion was the beloved daughter of the late Rufus and Edna Ellerbe Diggs. She was raised in a nurturing home alongside her siblings, creating bonds that lasted a lifetime. Tragically, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert and Paul Diggs, and her sister, Edna Wall McDonald. Despite the sorrow of these losses, Marion's heart remained ever open, and her family was her greatest joy. A proud graduate of Sanderson High School, Marion embraced every opportunity to learn and grow. Her passion for helping others led her to a fulfilling career as a caregiver, where she devoted over 30 years of her life to providing comfort and support to those in need. Her dedication and empathy knew no bounds, and she leaves behind a legacy of kindness and selflessness that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Marion's life was blessed with a loving marriage to her dear husband, Tony Odell, with whom she shared countless beautiful moments in their Raleigh home. Together, they nurtured a family filled with love and laughter. Marion is survived by her devoted husband, Tony, and their three children: daughters Toya Odell of Chapel Hill and Erica Odell of Raleigh, and son Marcus Odell. Marion was also a proud grandmother to three cherished grandchildren, who were the light of her life, and she leaves behind a host of extended family and friends who will forever hold her in their hearts. Marion's warmth and generosity extended beyond her family, as she created a community of friendships and connections that spanned her lifetime. Her infectious smile and gentle spirit will be profoundly missed, but the love she shared remains a guiding light for all who were fortunate to know her. In accordance with Marion's wishes, a private ceremony will be held to honor her life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Marion's memory to organizations dedicated to cancer research, to continue the fight against this insidious disease. Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find solace in the countless memories and the enduring love that Marion leaves behind. Her life was a testament to the power of compassion, and she will forever be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family, her work, and her community. Rest in peace, dear Marion, knowing that you are loved beyond measure and will never be forgotten.
