Marilynn H. Olson

Marilynn H. Olson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2026, after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure and a stroke. Born on July 29, 1941, in Waterloo, Iowa, Marilynn was the cherished daughter of Fredrick and Florence Hagy. Marilynn was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Flo, and her sisters, Janice Boswell and Barbara Gray. She is survived by her devoted husband of 34 years, David A. Olson, and her loving daughters, Kristin (Dale) Raasio and Debra Layton. Her legacy continues with her four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored deeply. Marilynn was a lifelong learner and teacher. After marrying Chester R. Lundberg, with whom she shared 28 years and raised two wonderful daughters, she returned to college to earn her teaching degree. This dedication led her to a rewarding career as a first-grade teacher, where she significantly impacted countless young lives. Her students often invited her to their weddings, a testament to the lasting bonds she formed. An active member of PEO for 29 years, Marilynn cherished the camaraderie and support of her sisters in the organization. Her love for travel took her and David around the world, where they made lifelong friends wherever they went. Known for her warm, welcoming nature, Marilynn never met a stranger. She had the unique ability to speak with everyone as if she had known them for years, making her a beloved figure in her community. Family was of utmost importance to Marilynn, and she relished in entertaining friends and family. Her home was always filled with laughter, love, and warmth. Those who knew her will remember her for her kindness, generosity, and the joy she brought into their lives. A celebration of Marilynn's life will be held on November 14, 2026, at West Hickory Baptist Church, located at 40 12th Street NW, Hickory, NC 28601. Friends and family are invited to gather and honor the remarkable life she led. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marilynn's memory may be made to Purple Heart Homes Inc in Huntersville, North Carolina, an organization she held dear. Marilynn's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her, and she will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and community.
