Marilyn Theal (Herberger)

Marilyn Theal (Herberger), a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on July 25, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. Born on April 21, 1954, in Buffalo, NY, Marilyn was the beloved daughter of the late William and Joan Herberger, whose values she carried throughout her life. A proud graduate of Williamsville North High School in 1972, Marilyn embarked on a lifelong career in public service. She began her journey as a Clerk Typist in Guam in 1979, and through determination and hard work, she rose to the position of Management Services Director at NAVFAC Northwest, from which she retired in 2015 after 35 years of dedicated service. Marilyn's life was rich with passions and pursuits. An enthusiastic quilter, she even owned her own quilting business, sharing her creations and love for the craft with many. Her artistic talents extended to painting and knitting, while her keen mind found joy in completing large puzzles. Marilyn's kitchen was often filled with the enticing aromas of her cooking, as she loved gathering her family for holidays and celebrations. Marilyn's sense of adventure was most evident in her cherished "Mom & Sisters vacations," where she and her mother, along with her four sisters, explored different states each year. These trips were filled with laughter, discovery, and the creation of precious memories that Marilyn savored and often recounted with joy. An active member of St. Pius Roman Catholic Church, Marilyn also contributed her time and energy to The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 245 of Poulsbo and served as the District Auxiliary President for the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas in Washington State. Her community involvement was a testament to her generous spirit and commitment to service. Family was at the heart of Marilyn's life. She is survived by her beloved children, Dawn Camasto and Bill (Sarah) Theal, who carry her spirit forward. Her legacy of love lives on in her grandchildren, Karly, Haley, Brady, Grace, and Gwen, who brought immense joy to her life. Marilyn is also survived by her siblings: Diane (Doug) Smith, Michael (Elaine) Herberger, Sharon (Jim) Scott, Sandy (Larry) Lawler, Steve (Joanne) Herberger, Jim (Ali) Herberger, Al (Lori) Herberger, and Laurie (Bob) Adams. Marilyn's indomitable spirit was characterized by her intelligence, warmth, generosity, and a touch of stubbornness that endeared her to all who knew her. She had an innate ability to organize and lead, earning the respect and admiration of those around her. In her later years, Marilyn found joy in playing cards and Mahjong with friends at Fox Creek. Family laughter could often be heard echoing through the halls during spirited games of Pinochle, a family tradition that brought her immense happiness. When you hear the sound of thunder, it may well be Marilyn and her parents playing Pinochle in the heavens, slamming those cards on the table. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to those who cared for Marilyn during her health struggles, including her devoted home aides from Safe at Your Place and the compassionate team at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital. Special thanks go to Olivia and Gina, her primary ICU nurses, whose kindness and attention to detail provided comfort in her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, honoring Marilyn's generous and caring nature. Marilyn's life was a testament to love, resilience, and joy. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
