March 30, 1932 — May 14, 2026
It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Marilyn Jeanette Gruhlke, who peacefully left this world on May 14, 2026, at the age of 94. Marilyn was born on March 30, 1932, in the vibrant city of Minneapolis, Minnesota, to George and Evelyn (Wickman) Gruhlke. Her life was a testament to love, faith, and the joy of family.
Marilyn was a spirited and devoted woman, known for her unwavering faith and dedication to her Lord. Her journey in faith began at an early age, fostered by her loving parents, George and Evelyn Anderson, who predeceased her but left an indelible mark on her heart and soul. Marilyn's life was further enriched when she met Eugene Gruhlke, a kindred spirit and her beloved partner in life, whom she married on December 2, 1950. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures, until Eugene's passing, which left a cherished legacy of love that their family continues to honor.
Marilyn was a proud alumna of Minnehaha Academy, where her passion for learning and community was ignited. She carried these values with her throughout her life, sharing her love of learning and her generous spirit with all who knew her. Her knack for sewing was legendary, crafting beautiful pieces that warmed the hearts of her family and friends. Marilyn's home was a haven of warmth and hospitality, where she excelled at hosting gatherings filled with good food, laughter, and love. Her church community also benefited from her talents, as she extended her hospitality beyond her home.
A true competitor at heart, Marilyn's love for games was well-known. Whether it was a friendly match or a spirited competition, she approached games with enthusiasm and often emerged victorious. She delighted in recounting the story of how she met Eugene over a ping pong table, a match that she would say she won, setting the stage for a lifelong partnership built on mutual respect and shared joy.
Marilyn's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her devoted children: daughters Barb (Tim) Ruopsa and Susan (Roger) Warndahl, and her son Dan (Sandy) Gruhlke. Her legacy of love continues through her 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of her generous spirit and loving heart. Her family cherishes the memories of a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was as kind as she was strong, and who imparted invaluable life lessons through her words and deeds.
As we celebrate Marilyn's remarkable life, we remember her as a beacon of love and faith, a woman who embodied grace and joy. Her legacy will continue to inspire those she leaves behind, reminding us all of the profound impact one life can have on so many others.
A service to honor Marilyn's life will be held at her cherished church, where she spent countless hours in fellowship and service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the church or a charity of your choice in Marilyn's name, reflecting her lifelong commitment to giving and service.
Marilyn Jeanette Gruhlke will be deeply missed, but her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Rest in peace, dear Marilyn, and thank you for your love, your laughter, and your unwavering faith.
