Marilyn Jean Bethune
January 1, 1955 — April 29, 2026
With profound sadness, yet with hearts full of gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Marilyn Jean Bethune, on May 29, 2026, at the age of 71. Marilyn left this world surrounded by her beloved children and grandchildren, a testament to the deep bonds she nurtured throughout her life.
Born on January 1, 1955, in Lubbock, Texas, Marilyn was the cherished daughter of the late Dorothy Sue Elliott Williams and Berlon Dell Williams Sr. Though her parents and numerous family friends have preceded her in passing, Marilyn's legacy perseveres through the family she adored. She is survived by her devoted children: Christy & Pinky Bartts, Nicole Bethune, Lisa & Todd Elowsky, Darian Bethune, and Robert & Natalie Bethune. Her influence and love extend to her 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of her indomitable spirit.
Marilyn's early years were spent in the warmth of family life, graduating from Lubbock High School before embracing the role of a stay-at-home wife and mother. Her marriage, lasting 26 years, provided her with the foundation to raise her children. With resilience and determination, Marilyn worked various jobs, ultimately dedicating over a decade to the Concho Resource Center, where she was a valued colleague and a friend to many.
Marilyn's passions were as vibrant and varied as her personality. An avid NASCAR enthusiast, her heart raced alongside Kyle Busch in his M&M race car. Her Sundays were filled with the cheers and triumphs of the Kansas City Chiefs, particularly her admiration for Patrick Mahomes. Beyond her love for sports, Marilyn's hands were rarely still, as she crocheted countless gifts, each stitch imbued with love, for her family.
Known for her raw honesty and unmatched timing, Marilyn's words were always sincere, and her love, unwavering. A caretaker at heart, she provided a nurturing presence for her own children and grandchildren, as well as the many others whose lives she touched.
A small family service to celebrate Marilyn's life will be held on June 13, 2026. The family extends their heartfelt thanks for the outpouring of love and support received during this challenging time. They invite you to join them in prayer honoring a woman whose life was a testament to love, resilience, and enduring legacy.
Marilyn Jean Bethune will be profoundly missed, but her feisty spirit will forever illuminate the lives of those she loved. May she rest in peace, her heart full of the tough love she so generously shared.
