Marie R. Carter

May 29, 1945 — July 28, 2026

Marie R. Carter, a beloved matriarch, devoted caregiver, and steadfast pillar of her community, was born on May 29, 1945, in the serene village of Monkey River Village, Belize. She peacefully departed this world on July 28, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and service that touched many lives. Born to Alma Bull-Young and Christopher Arnold, Marie was one of 20 siblings, with whom she shared a childhood filled with laughter, resilience, and deep familial bonds. She is survived by her cherished siblings Gretel, Agnes, Cedric, Magda, David, Esther, Ivy, Gerry, Matthew, Julia, Joyce, and her adopted sister Marilyn, who will continue to celebrate her life and the values she instilled in them. Marie was the loving wife of Nathaniel H. Carter, with whom she shared a lifetime of companionship and mutual devotion. Marie raised a large, close-knit family, blessed with nine children: Carolyn, Allen, Shirlene, Alicia, Leyard, Karen, Hubert Jr., Dwayne, and Darwin. Her legacy of love extends to her grandchildren—Jermaine, V-Ann, Gregory, Allen Jr., Glenford, Julie-Ann, Alisha, Anna, Zeke, Jesse, Le-Andre, Janae, Angel, DaDesha, Nailika, Alexander, Tiana, Alexandra, Danielle, Dwayne Jr., Kaitlyn, and Kynden—and her 28 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren, each a testament to her enduring spirit and nurturing heart. Professionally, Marie dedicated her life to the care and well-being of others as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant. Her compassion and kindness were most evident when she ran a foster home for the elderly, where she provided not just care, but a sense of family and belonging to those in her charge. Marie began her spiritual journey at Altadena SDA Church in California, then moved to Oregon and joined Sharon SDA Church. She was one of the founding members for Your Bible Speak SDA Church in Portland and for New Life SDA Church in Las Vegas while being a member of Abundant Life SDA Church in Las Vegas. She was a usher, a greeter, head deaconess and was the person to make the communion bread in Portland for many years. She participated in all church activities and functions without exception and was a faithful and dedicated member to the SDA family. Marie's life was a testament to the power of love, dedication, and faith. Her legacy will live on through her family, friends, and the countless individuals whose lives she touched. Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering faith will be profoundly missed but will remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Poem / Prayer

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
