Marie Kemp-McGarvey
July 4, 1940 — October 20, 2026
Marie Kemp-McGarvey, a beloved matriarch, educator, and community pillar, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and generosity that touched the lives of many. Born on July 4, 1940, in Louisville, Kentucky, Marie was the cherished daughter of Lucille and Hunter Satterwhite. She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved brother Jim Satterwhite, and her devoted husband, Richard McGarvey.
Marie's journey through life was marked by her profound love for her family. She is survived by her siblings, Frank Satterwhite and Lynn Smith; her children, Erich Kemp and LeAnn Beecroft; her treasured grandchildren, Sarah Abdur Raheem and Valerie Beecroft; and her adored great-grandchildren, Aaron Bryant, Sameyah, Kalilah, and Mubarak Jr. Abdur Raheem.
Marie shared her life with two remarkable partners. She was preceded in death by her beloved late husband, Richard McGarvey, who was her steadfast companion and partner in life's adventures. She also cherished her former husband and lifelong friend, Dick Kemp, with whom she raised their two children.
A proud graduate of Cottage Grove High School in 1958, Marie pursued higher education, earning a Master's degree in Early Childhood Development. Her career spanned various fields; she was a successful real estate broker and later found joy in property management. In her later years, Marie discovered her passion for teaching, dedicating her time to educating children and young adults at Umpqua Community College.
Marie's interests were as diverse as her talents. She was a master gardener, an artist, a skilled seamstress, and an avid collector. Her greatest joy, however, was found in the lively company of her great-grandchildren, where her spirit of generosity and kindness shone brightly.
Marie was known for her quick wit and a heart as big as her infectious smile. Her generosity knew no bounds, and her ability to uplift and inspire those around her left an indelible mark on everyone she met.
A celebration of Marie's life will be held on November 7, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Stockyard Social Hall, located at 127 NE 1st St, Oakland, OR 97462. Family, friends, and members of the community are invited to gather and honor her remarkable life.
