Marie Jones James

Mrs. Marie Jones James was born on June 19, 1939, to Ruby Flanagan Jones and George Jones. She graduated from Centra High School in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Marie accepted Christ in Pineville, Louisiana, under the leadership of Rev. Samual T. Johnson at Zion Hill Baptist Church. Seeking greater opportunities, the family later moved to Houston, Texas, where Marie united with Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. H. A. King, Rev. Parker, and Rev. Anthony. Marie loved cooking for her family and cherished every moment spent with loved ones. She had a generous heart and was always willing to help others whenever she could. She is preceded in death by her son, Foster B. Ratliff; her sisters Mary L. Condet, Lizzie B. Watson, and Corine J. Tumpkin; and her brothers Charles Ray Jones and Ishmel Underwood. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Arthur H. James; her daughter, Joyce M. Marshall (Ernest); her sons, Felton R. Ratliff (Mary), George L. Ratliff (Brenda), Kelvin L. Ratcliff (Daphne), and James D. Ratliff (Felicia); 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Elva J. Carpenter; her special niece and caretaker Carolyn Hawkins (Glen); and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
