April 12, 1952 — October 15, 2026

Maria Ogando, who graced this world with her warmth and laughter on April 12, 1952, in the beautiful landscapes of Puerto Rico, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2026, after a courageous battle with thyroid cancer. Her life was a testament to strength, love, and unwavering faith. Maria was the beloved daughter of Fernando and Santa-Maria Ogando, and she cherished her roots deeply. She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, and a sister, but her spirit and memory live on through her surviving family: her devoted sister, Betsy Ogando; her four beloved children, Oscar, Elizabeth, Belitza, and Julio; and her cherished 14 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who were the light of her life. Maria was a devoted Catholic, dedicating her life to her faith and to serving God, a commitment that was unwavering throughout her life. Her marriage to Fernando Ogando on September 18, 1974, was a union of love and partnership that endured even after his passing in 1992, a testament to her enduring love and loyalty. In her personal life, Maria found joy in the simple pleasures of gardening and raising farm animals. Her love for the earth and its creatures was evident in the vibrant gardens she nurtured and the gentle care she showed to her animals. Her quick wit and warm smile were her trademarks, lighting up any room she entered and bringing laughter even in the hardest of times. A private funeral ceremony will honor Maria's life, respecting her wishes for an intimate gathering of those closest to her. For those who wish to honor her memory, contributions can be made in Maria's name to a cause that reflects her devotion and spirit. Maria Ogando will be remembered for the joy she brought into the lives of those she touched, her steadfast faith, and the enduring legacy of love she leaves behind. Her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift, echoing in the laughter and smiles of her family and friends.
