Maria Mercedes Rojas, a beloved member of the El Centro community, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026, in the presence of her loving family. Born on January 8, 1965, in El Centro, California, Maria lived a life full of love, devotion, and service to others. Her departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her.
Mercedes graduated from Central Union High School in 1974 and pursued a career in healthcare by attending Imperial Valley College, where she studied to become a Medical Assistant. She dedicated over 20 years of her professional life to the Health Department in the Imperial Valley, where her compassionate nature and commitment to the well-being of others left a lasting impact on countless individuals.
As an active member of Our Sacred Heart Catholic Mission Church, Mercedes was deeply involved in various church activities. She found immense joy in participating in celebrations such as El Día De La Virgen and assisting with First Communions and weddings. Her generous spirit and unwavering faith were evident in every aspect of her life.
Though Mercedes did not have biological children, she played an instrumental role in the upbringing of her nephew Jorge Arturo Mendez and niece Ariana Mendez, whom she loved as her own. Her nurturing instincts extended beyond her immediate family, as she was a cherished godmother to many, a testament to the profound love and respect she inspired in others.
Married to her devoted husband, Saul Ramirez, Mercedes was a loving partner who valued family and community above all else. Her love for travel and her eagerness to care for those in need were just some of the many qualities that endeared her to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Maria Mercedes Rojas will be held on August 11, 2026, at 5:00 PM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Mission Church, located at 40 East Main Street, Heber, CA 92249. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a truly remarkable woman whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of so many.
