Maria Catalina Trevino, 89, of Laredo, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026, surrounded by the love and prayers of her family and friends. Born on December 25, 1936, Maria was a cherished Christmas gift to her parents, Leoncio and Belia Trevino, in the warm and welcoming community of Laredo. Her early years were marked by the love and guidance of her devoted parents, who predeceased her.
Maria's life was a tapestry of rich experiences and profound achievements. A proud alumna of George Washington University in Washington D.C., Maria earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees, laying a strong foundation for a life dedicated to service and diplomacy. Her illustrious career as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. State Department saw her traversing the globe, with notable assignments at the U.S. Embassy in Spain and various other international locations. Her work was not only a testament to her intellect but also her commitment to fostering global understanding and peace.
Upon retiring, Maria returned to her beloved hometown of Laredo, where she continued active membership at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she contributed tirelessly to her church community, bringing her characteristic warmth and wit to every gathering. In addition, Maria was a passionate member of her local literary women's club, where her love for literature and the arts flourished. She maintained strong friendships and relationships up until her passing.
Maria will be remembered for her quick wit and warm smile, which could light up any room. She was a beloved figure among her cousins, nephews, nieces, and numerous friends, always maintaining a keen interest in their lives and offering her unwavering support and love. Her nurturing spirit and genuine curiosity about the world and the people around her left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Though Maria did not have children of her own, she found family in those she held dear, who now survive her and carry forward her legacy of kindness, wisdom, and grace. Her life was a beacon of love, showing us all the value of compassion, understanding, and joy.
A service to honor Maria's remarkable life will be held on May 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, located at 718 San Jorge Ave, Laredo, TX 78040. Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of a life well-lived, sharing stories and memories of the profound impact Maria had on their lives. Internment at the City of Laredo Cemetery will immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church reflecting Maria’s lifelong commitment to giving back to the community she loved so dearly.
Maria Catalina Trevino’s spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, reminding us of the beauty in each day and the power of a life devoted to service and love. May she rest in eternal peace.
