With heavy hearts and deep appreciation for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Maria Baniaga, a cherished matriarch, beloved friend, and compassionate soul. Maria peacefully departed from this world on June 20, 2026, at the age of 73, in Merced, California, due to the gentle passage of time. Her life was a tapestry of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family and friends. Maria was born on May 20, 1953, in Stockton, California. She lived a life filled with love, resilience, and generosity. Her journey was one of joy and inspiration, marked by her innate ability to bring people together with her warm spirit and infectious laughter. Maria was predeceased by her family members who went before her, all of whom she cherished deeply. She carried their memories with her throughout her life, honoring them in her own way by living with grace and gratitude. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in her surviving family: her loving husband, Martin; her children, Khrissy and Isaac Baniaga; and her devoted daughter-in-law, Odela Smothers. Maria's pride and joy were her three grandchildren, who brought immense happiness and light into her life. They will forever carry her teachings and love in their hearts. Maria's life will be celebrated with a service to be held on June 22, 2026, at 12:00 PM at the Stratford Evens Funeral Home, located at 1490 B Street, Merced, CA 95341. Friends and family are invited to gather to honor her memory and celebrate the beautiful life she lived. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the memorial fund established in Maria's name, located at 901 W Main St, Merced, CA 95340. This fund will continue her legacy of kindness and support for those in need, a cause that was dear to her heart. Maria Baniaga's presence in our lives was a precious gift, and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her. She taught us the true meaning of love and compassion, and her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us. Though she is no longer with us in body, her light will forever shine in our hearts. May she rest in eternal peace, forever remembered and forever loved.
