Atlanta, Georgia - Margie Renee Shumate, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on June 21, 2026, after courageously facing a long and difficult illness. Born on December 8, 1964, in Atlanta, Georgia, Margie lived a life rich with love, kindness, and generosity, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Margie was the cherished daughter of the late Cecil and Johnnie Ingram, whose wisdom and values she carried forward with grace throughout her life. She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved son, Jonathan Shumate, Sr., and her siblings, Wanda Cornett, Emmet Ingram, Clara Roberts, and Larry Pope, as well as her dear nephew, Richard Roberts. Despite the profound loss she experienced, Margie always found strength in her family and friends, whom she loved unconditionally.
She is survived by her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Derrick Bramlett, and her loving son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Becca Shumate. Margie’s heart was filled with pride and joy for her grandchildren: Hailey Bramlett, Dylan Richard, Dalton Richard, Donna Richard, Jonathan Shumate, Jr., Brayden Bramlett, Parker Shumate, Mason Shumate, Alexa Rivers, Scarlette Shumate, and Aiden Rivers. Her legacy will also be carried forward by her great-grandson, who is expected to join the family in September. Margie was also blessed with a special circle of friends, among them her devoted caregiver, Greg Casteel, and his son, Daniel, who provided unwavering support and companionship.
Margie was known for her nurturing spirit and her ability to spread warmth and kindness wherever she went. A friend to all, she offered compassion and care to everyone she encountered, making them feel valued and loved. Her home was always open, and her heart was even more so, welcoming friends and strangers alike with open arms.
An avid lover of plants and flowers, Margie's garden was a testament to her love for nature and beauty. She found solace and joy in tending to her garden, where each blossom was a reflection of her vibrant spirit. Her passion for Western movies was equally profound, as she found comfort and entertainment in the timeless stories of heroism and adventure.
Margie's family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to all who supported her during her illness. They find peace in knowing that she is reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her and are comforted by the countless memories they shared with her.
A memorial service to honor Margie's life will be held at a later date, allowing family and friends to gather and celebrate the beautiful life she led. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of choice in Margie's memory, continuing her legacy of love and kindness.
Margie Renee Shumate's light will forever shine in the hearts of those she touched, and her spirit will live on through the love she so generously shared.
