In Loving Memory

Margaret Nelson
July 7, 1946 — April 7, 2026
Margaret Nelson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, surrounded by her cherished family. Born on July 7, 1946, in Wilmington, Delaware, Margaret lived a life filled with love, warmth, and joy. Her passing marks the end of her courageous battle with various health issues, but her spirit and memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
Margaret was the daughter of the late Clarence and Margaret Sharpe. She was predeceased by her sisters, Gertrude Dunn, Louise Carothers, Annabella Bielicki, and her brother, Robert Nussbaumer. Despite these losses, Margaret remained a beacon of strength and resilience, traits she carried throughout her life.
In 1964, Margaret graduated from H. Fletcher Brown Technical High School with a diploma in Beauty Culture, a testament to her passion for beauty and creativity. She devoted many years to her career as a beautician at Westover Beauty Salon, where her clients became lifelong friends, drawn to her sweet personality and warm smile.
On October 26, 1968, Margaret married the love of her life, Allen G. Nelson Jr., affectionately known as Bud. Their marriage of 57 years was a testament to unwavering love and partnership. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Dawn Schantz (husband Kevin), April Nelson, and Tracy Nelson. Margaret was a proud grandmother to John DuRoss, Ashley Renfro (husband Casen), Aidan Nelson, Alayna DuRoss, and Chad Pennington, and a doting great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren.
Margaret's life was a tapestry of vibrant hobbies and interests. She had a green thumb that could coax the most reluctant plant to bloom. Her vegetable garden was a source of pride, and she delighted in sharing her homegrown tomatoes with neighbors. Her home was always filled with the beauty of flowers and houseplants, lovingly tended to by her gentle hands. During the holiday season, Margaret's creativity shone as she crafted beautiful Christmas ornaments, each one a reflection of her sparkling personality.
Known for her kindness and generosity, Margaret had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. Her cheerful and loving nature left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Margaret's legacy is one of love, laughter, and a life well-lived.
A service to honor and celebrate Margaret's life will be held on May 8, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Strano & Feeley, located at 635 Churchmans Rd, Newark, DE 19702. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Ascension Providence Hospital for their compassionate care during Margaret's final days.
Margaret Nelson will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. As her family lovingly expressed, "Forever in our hearts."
