Margaret Louise Coleman
February 8, 1943 — March 3, 2026
Richmond, Virginia—It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of our beloved Margaret Louise Coleman. Born on February 8, 1943, in Richmond, Margaret left us unexpectedly on March 3, 2026, following emergency open-heart surgery. Her departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but her legacy of kindness and vibrant spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
Margaret was the cherished daughter of the late Wilson Coleman and Ruby Louise Dempsey Coleman, who instilled in her a deep love for family and community. Though they preceded her in death, their values lived on through Margaret's generous actions and warm spirit. She is survived by her dear sister, Sue Messenheimer, and a loving extended family including her nieces and nephews: Linda (Chris) Baber; great-niece Sarah (Nil), Lia, Kezia Patel; great-nephews Christopher (Cathrine) Libby, Madison Baber; and Forrest (Colette) Baber, all of whom carry forward her legacy of love and laughter.
A proud graduate of Freeman High School, Margaret went on to dedicate 30 years of service at AT&T, where her Southern charm and dedication made her not just a colleague, but a friend to many. Her career was a testament to her commitment to excellence and her steadfast loyalty.
Margaret's true passion lay in the rich soil of her garden. With an artist’s touch, she cultivated a vibrant tapestry of azaleas, hydrangeas, and a plethora of potted flowers. Her garden was not only a sanctuary for the senses but a place where she cultivated friendships, generously sharing her gardening knowledge and lovingly propagated cuttings with friends and neighbors. Her Southern accent was as comforting as the gentle rustle of leaves in a summer breeze, and her voice was a melody that resonated with all who knew her.
Known for her caring nature, Margaret often assisted others in their gardening endeavors, providing advice, fertilizers, and sprays to anyone in need. Her generosity was boundless, and she touched many lives with her selflessness and grace. Margaret lived by the motto, "Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, but about learning to dance in the rain," a sentiment that perfectly encapsulated her outlook on life.
In tribute to her life, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, the SPCA, or a charity of your choice, reflecting Margaret's lifelong commitment to nurturing life and providing care to those who need it most.
Margaret's memory will forever be a blessing to those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her life was a garden of beauty, tended with love, and her spirit will forever dance in the gardens she adored. As we bid farewell to a truly remarkable woman, we find solace in the beautiful legacy she leaves behind and the love she sowed in the hearts of all who knew her.
