Margaret L. "Peggy" Hawes

February 21, 1935 — May 4, 2026

Margaret L. "Peggy" Hawes, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026, with her devoted family by her side. Born on February 21, 1935, in the quaint town of Northfield, Vermont, Peggy was the daughter of the late Kenneth W. Jennett and Cordelia I. (Slack) Jennett. Her early years in Northfield were marked by a loving family environment, the foundation of the deep bonds she would foster throughout her life. Peggy was a spirited and bright student, graduating from Northfield High School with enthusiasm and ambition. She furthered her education at Salter Secretarial School in Massachusetts and attended Becker Junior College, equipping herself with skills that would serve her throughout a dedicated career. Peggy worked diligently as a claims clerk for both State Mutual Insurance Company and Eastern Casualty in Worcester, where her meticulous nature and warm personality earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike. In her personal life, Peggy was blessed to find her soulmate in John P. Hawes. They shared a loving marriage filled with laughter, mutual respect, and enduring companionship until John's passing in 2010. Together, they raised two children, Lynn A. Chenevert and the late John P. Hawes, Jr., creating a nurturing and supportive home that became a sanctuary of love and joy. Peggy was a woman of many interests, each pursued with passion and grace. She had an enduring love for reading, often losing herself in the pages of a good book, finding both solace and adventure in the stories she devoured. Her delight in shopping and movies was shared with friends and family, providing treasured memories and countless cherished moments. Peggy’s creative spirit found expression in crafts, where she channeled her artistic flair into creating beautiful and unique pieces that will be remembered fondly by those who received them. Her family was the center of Peggy's world, and she cherished every moment spent with her daughter, Lynn, and her four beloved grandchildren, Jenna, Vinny, John Henry, and Amanda. Her home was a haven of warmth and love, a place where laughter was abundant, and her kind, nurturing spirit touched everyone who crossed her threshold. Peggy's life was also marked by the profound connections she maintained with her community of friends, each relationship a testament to her generous heart and unwavering loyalty. Her friendships were as much a part of her legacy as her family, reflecting a life lived with kindness, compassion, and an open heart. Preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Cordelia Jennett, her husband John, her son John Jr., and her brothers, Henry and Kenneth W. Jennett Jr., Peggy’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. However, her spirit lives on through her daughter Lynn, her grandchildren, and the many friends who were fortunate enough to know her. Margaret L. "Peggy" Hawes will be remembered not only for her grace and generosity but for the love and light she brought into the world. Her legacy is one of kindness, strength, and an enduring dedication to family and friends. She will be deeply missed but forever held in the hearts of those she touched throughout her remarkable journey.
