Margaret J. Wood
July 7, 1940 — June 21, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Margaret J. Wood, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, on June 21, 2026, at the age of 85. Margaret left this world surrounded by her devoted husband, Richard, and her beloved family, who were a constant source of joy in her life.
Born on July 7, 1940, in Oakland, California, Margaret was the treasured daughter of Clarence and Josephine DuPriest. She was raised in a bustling home filled with the love and laughter of her siblings: Ted, Dale, Dorothy, Betty, Judy, Yolanda, Carolyn, Nancy, and Pat. Throughout her life, Margaret exemplified the strength and resilience that her parents instilled in her, and she carried their legacy forward through her own family.
Margaret met the love of her life, Richard J. Wood, in high school, and they were married on a warm summer day, August 2, 1957. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership, and together they built a beautiful life over their 69 years of marriage. Their journey was graced with the arrival of their three beloved children, Ron, Mandy, and Lisa, who were the center of Margaret's world.
Margaret was known for her unwavering dedication to her family. She found immense joy in being a homemaker, a role in which she excelled, creating a nurturing and loving environment for her children and later her grandchildren. Her home was a haven, filled with warmth, laughter, and the irresistible aroma of her home-cooked meals.
Her career path took her briefly into the world of technology, where she worked assembling computer boards for Lockheed Martin and Hughes Aircraft. These experiences enriched her life and provided a brief glimpse into the rapidly changing world outside her home.
Margaret had a profound love for reading, a passion she shared with her children and grandchildren. Her days were filled with the turning of pages and the sharing of stories, and she delighted in passing on her love of books to the next generations. In her younger years, she was an avid exerciser, a routine that she carried into her later years with daily walks alongside her husband and their loyal dogs, Buddy and Annie.
She was a woman of immense compassion, known for her nurturing spirit and the deep care she extended to her grandchildren, whom she adored. Margaret was blessed with five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life and whom she cherished with all her heart.
Margaret's legacy is one of love, kindness, and devotion to family. Her gentle spirit and steadfast loyalty touched all who knew her, and she will be profoundly missed by those she leaves behind, including her adoring husband Richard, her children Ron, Mandy, and Lisa, and her dear sisters Nancy and Pat.
She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Clarence and Josephine, and her siblings Ted, Dale, Dorothy, Betty, Judy, Yolanda, and Carolyn, who undoubtedly welcomed her with open arms.
Margaret's life was a testament to the power of love and family, and her memory will forever be cherished by all whose lives she touched. A private family service will be held to honor Margaret's life, where her family will gather to celebrate her legacy and the indelible mark she left on their hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Margaret's name, celebrating her life-long commitment to kindness and community.
Rest in peace, dear Margaret. Your love lives on in the hearts of all who knew you.
