Margaret Elaine Whitfield 9587, 84, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026. Born on April 18, 1942, to Henry and Louise Porter, Margaret grew up with a love of books, music, and the quiet beauty of a well-tended garden. Margaret worked for more than thirty years as a school librarian, where she helped generations of children find stories that made them feel brave, curious, and understood. At home, she was known for Sunday dinners, handwritten notes, lemon cake, and roses that bloomed year after year beside the porch. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Whitfield, and her brother, Samuel Porter. She is survived by her daughters Claire Whitfield and Naomi Reyes, her son Daniel Whitfield, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends. A memorial service will be held on May 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Grace Community Church, 214 Magnolia Avenue, Savannah, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Savannah Public Library Foundation. Margaret's family is grateful for every meal, call, prayer, and memory shared in her honor.
