September 5, 1957 — May 12, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret A. Keel, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this world on May 12, 2026, at the age of 68. Margaret passed away peacefully at home in the comforting presence of her cherished loved ones. Her life, marked by love, service, and unwavering kindness, will be celebrated and remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Born on September 5, 1957, in the warm embrace of Alabama, Margaret was the daughter of the late John Edward Keel and Betty Barberow. She grew up surrounded by a close-knit family, including her late stepfather, Byron Barberow, and brother, John Edward Keel, Jr., with whom she shared countless cherished memories.
Margaret proudly served her country with distinction in the Army National Guard, dedicating 20 years of active service to her nation. Her honorable discharge was a testament to her commitment and dedication to protecting the freedoms we hold dear. Her service was a source of immense pride and a reflection of her steadfast character.
Margaret's life was centered around her family, who were the very heart of her existence. She is survived by her loving sons, Jason (Angela) Towne and Alan (Nicole) Carmack, who continue to carry forward her legacy of kindness and resilience. Her grandchildren, Ethan (Jordan) Towne, Zachary Towne, Cole (Elaine) Carmack, and Hayden Carmack, were the joys of her life, and she relished every moment spent watching them play baseball, a beloved pastime that brought her endless happiness.
She also leaves behind her dear siblings, Bonnie (Steve) Germany and Jacob Barberow, along with a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great-nephews, all of whom she loved deeply and cherished immensely. Margaret was predeceased by her grandson, Cooper Alan Carmack, whom she now joins in eternal peace.
Margaret's compassion knew no bounds. Even as her own health declined, she continued to reach out to her friends, always ensuring they felt loved and cared for. Her genuine spirit and ability to share a kind word or gesture will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
In her leisure time, Margaret found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was cheering on her grandchildren from the sidelines or enjoying a spirited game of bowling. Her laughter and enthusiasm were infectious, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in memory of Margaret Keel to Ivy Creek Hospice, whose compassionate staff provided Margaret with exceptional care and comfort during her final days. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the hospice staff for their unwavering support and dedication.
As we bid farewell to Margaret, we find solace in knowing that her legacy of love, service, and compassion will continue to inspire us all. She was a guiding light in our lives, and her memory will forever remain in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Margaret, as you are reunited with those who have gone before you. You will be deeply missed and forever loved.
