Margaret A. Greenly

August 22, 1947 — April 25, 2026

Margaret A. Greenly, a beacon of kindness and an unwavering pillar of support, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 25, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on August 22, 1947, in the charming town of Fairfax, Virginia, Margaret was the cherished daughter of Mary and Eugene Adams. Her life was a testament to the power of compassion, generosity, and dedication, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. Margaret was predeceased by her beloved parents, Mary and Eugene; her dear brother, Eugene; her sister, Libby; and her devoted husband, Lloyd F. Greenly, whom she married in 1981. Together, Margaret and Lloyd built a life filled with love and purpose, and she now leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kindness that will be carried on by her surviving family: her sons, William and James, and her sister, Cathy. Margaret's educational journey began at Seton Hill College, where she graduated in 1969 with a BA in psychology. She furthered her studies at Columbia University, earning an MS in social work in 1972, and later at Marist College, where she completed her MPA with a concentration in Health Care in 1997. Her thirst for knowledge and passion for helping others laid the foundation for a distinguished career. Margaret dedicated her professional life to the field of social work and healthcare, beginning as a clinical social worker at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, where her skill and dedication saw her rise to the position of Manager of Quality Assurance. She later took on the role of Director of Patient Services at Vassar Hospital and then moved to St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, where she served as the Director of Quality Improvement and Patient Safety. Her commitment to nurturing and enhancing the well-being of those around her was also reflected in her work as a social worker specializing in adoption studies and as a beloved professor at Marist College in the School of Business. Margaret's dedication to her community was as profound as her professional pursuits. She served as President of the Hyde Park School Board, Chairman of the St. Peter’s Parish Council, and a Merit Badge Counselor for Boy Scout Troop 37 in Hyde Park. Her leadership, generosity, and unwavering support touched the lives of many. Outside of her professional and community commitments, Margaret found joy in simple pleasures. She loved creating beautiful flower arrangements, taking leisurely walks, and most of all, spending cherished moments with her family and friends. Her gentle spirit and boundless generosity made her a treasured friend to many. Margaret's family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Poughkeepsie Grand, Hospice, and Sweets Funeral Home for their compassionate care during her final days. A service to celebrate Margaret's life will be held on May 16, 2026, at 9:45 a.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary, located at 185 Hudson View Drive, Poughkeepsie, NY. The family invites all who knew and loved Margaret to join them in honoring her remarkable life and legacy. Margaret A. Greenly's memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her. Her life was a beautiful example of love, kindness, and selfless service, and she will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of crossing her path.
