Marcus departed this life on March 21, 2026, at the age of 34, leaving behind a rich legacy of passion, creativity, and love. Born on September 26, 1991, in St. Louis, MO, Marcus was the cherished son of Robert H. and Dina G. (Mix) Johnson. From an early age, Marcus exhibited an extraordinary talent for dance, a gift that he nurtured through dedicated study and boundless enthusiasm. Educated in the University school district, he graduated from University City High School in 2010. His academic journey continued at Webster University, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance in 2014, followed by a master’s degree from Washington University in 2020. Marcus’s career was a testament to his unwavering dedication to the art of dance. As an educator, choreographer, and performer, he inspired countless individuals. He shared his talents with Denoyer Dance Studio and Dance, Inc., and graced the stage as a professional dancer with the Modern American Dance Company. His leadership and passion for teaching were evident in his role as director and instructor at RJ's Dance Studio. Marcus's commitment to his craft also extended to his role as a faculty member at Lindenwood University and through his affiliations with COCA, Alvin Ailey Perry Mansfield School, and Kansas City Ballet. Above all, Marcus was a devoted father to his beloved son, Kai, who was the light of his life. He is survived by his loving parents, Robert H. and Dina G. Mix-Johnson; his sister, Shanise; and his adoring grandparents, Johnnie (Alma) Mix, Ethel Weldon, and Robert H. Marcus was predeceased by his brother, Robert (Doodie) Johnson, and his Aunt Kathy Foushee', whose memories he carried with him throughout his life. A private funeral service will be held to honor Marcus’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to arts education programs in Marcus’s memory, continuing his lifelong mission of fostering creativity and expression in young dancers. Marcus J. Johnson will be remembered not only for his remarkable talent and dedication to dance but also for his infectious smile, his generous heart, and his unyielding spirit. His legacy will continue to inspire and uplift all those who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace, enveloped in the love and admiration of those he leaves behind.
