Marcus Adams

It is with heavy hearts that we announced the peaceful passing of Marcus Antonius Adams on June 4th, 2026, at the Autumn Lake Health Care Facility, following a courageous battle with illness. Marcus was born on June 28th, 1957, in Washington, D.C., to the late James David and Sarah Lee Adams. He was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, whose life was a testament to love and faith. Marcus was predeceased by his cherished wife, Olivia Adams, and his special niece, Tamara Lewter, affectionately known as "T-Bird." He is survived by his three devoted siblings: Robin (Ned), Jay (Grady), and Miguel (Winell). Marcus leaves behind a rich legacy through his three children: Wynter Gudger, Antonio "Tony" Adams (Dora), and Megan. He was the proud grandfather of eight beautiful grandchildren: Dion, Derrick (Lonnie), Isis, Isa, Precious, Daniel, Jerimiah (Shelice), and Dynasty (Joshua); and the adoring great-grandfather to eight great-grandchildren: Azarah, Zarah, Zanyah, Ariah, Zamya, Willow, Semanj’e, and Joshua Jr. Educated in the D.C. Public Schools, Marcus attended Kramer Jr. High and Spingarn High Schools. He honed his skills as a painter through an apprenticeship where he became renowned as an expert "Cut" man. His steady hand and precision allowed him to paint with finesse, a skill he employed for over 30 years with Roy's Paint Company, beautifying homes, churches, and various sites with dedication. Marcus's life was deeply enriched by his spiritual journey. He was a member of Divine Mission Church, where he enjoyed playing the bongos with the church band, a talent that Olivia loved to watch. After Olivia's passing, Marcus found spiritual growth and community at Kingdom Life under Bishop Mark A. Crowley's guidance. Marcus had a profound love for nature and creativity. He cherished fishing trips with his father and shared a passion with Olivia for gathering driftwood to craft unique, varnished gifts. A gifted poet, Marcus spent many weekends captivating audiences with his words at open mic nights and spoken word venues. In honoring Marcus's memory, the family suggests donations be made in his name to a charity of your choice, reflecting his generous spirit and love for helping others. Marcus was a man of faith, family, and artistic expression. His legacy will endure in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends. His God given talent was many and he an unwavering love of life. His memory will forever be a blessing.
