It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marcelo Salazar Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who left us peacefully on July 28, 2026, after a short illness. Marcelo was a beacon of light and warmth, born on November 28, 1942, in the close-knit community of Crestonio, Texas, to Marcelo Sr. and Guadalupe Salazar. Marcelo's life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and love. He was predeceased by his cherished parents and his beloved sisters, Zoila Rivera, Jilma Tamayo, Herminia Ramirez, and Maria Benavidez. He is survived by his devoted wife of over 64 years, Delfina Z. Salazar, with whom he shared an extraordinary journey since their marriage in January 1962. Together, they nurtured a family filled with love, laughter, and enduring bonds. His legacy lives on through his children: Jose A. Salazar and his wife Leticia, Lorena Garcia and her husband Arturo, Rigoberto, Leola Brumley and her husband David, and Belinda Tagle and her husband Rafael. Marcelo's heart expanded with joy as he welcomed 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart. He was also adored by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends who became family over the years. From an early age, Marcelo displayed a passion for learning and craftsmanship. He attended Austin Elementary, Driscoll Junior High School, and Miller High School, before graduating from Barber College in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 17. His career as a barber spanned 55 years, beginning in 1960 and culminating with the ownership of Marcelo’s Barber Shop from 1968 until 2015. His shop was a sanctuary where people from all walks of life gathered, drawn not only by his skillful hands but also by his quick wit, sense of humor, and sage advice. Marcelo was a man of many talents and interests. He found solace in the simplicity of nature, often escaping to fish, run, swim, or camp. His hands were a testament to his craftsmanship, as he skillfully created beautiful wooden furniture and kitchen cabinets that now serve as cherished mementos of his talent and love. Always the handyman, he could fix anything, offering his skills to anyone in need. Service to honor Marcelo's life will be held at the Corpus Christi Funeral Home, located on Baldwin Blvd. The family extends their gratitude to the staff at Drs Regional Hospital for their compassionate care during Marcelo's final days. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice, in Marcelo's name. This gesture would honor his generous spirit and commitment to helping others. Marcelo Salazar Jr. will forever be remembered for his unwavering love, laughter, and the joy he brought into the lives of everyone he touched. His legacy is the love he leaves behind, woven into the fabric of his family and friends.
