August 22, 1943 — March 27, 2026

August 22, 1943 - March 27, 2026 It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Marcella "Sally" Haltiner, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Sally was called to eternal rest on March 27, 2026, at the age of 82, surrounded by her loving family at the Monument Health Hospice House. Born on August 22, 1943, in Hague, North Dakota, Sally was the 5th of 10 children and the oldest daughter. She was raised on the family farm along with her 6 brothers and 3 sisters. Sally embraced life with an open heart and a vivacious spirit that touched everyone she met. She was a true social butterfly who lit up any room with her captivating smile and infectious laughter. Known for a mischievous sparkle in her eye, Sally had an uncanny ability to surprise and delight those around her with her playful nature. Her generous spirit and warm hospitality made everyone feel welcome, and her home was always a haven for friends and family alike. Sally was educated at the country school near her family's farm in Hague. She later carved out a career as a bartender and manager in the Lead/Deadwood area, where she met and married the love of her life, Herbert "Herb" Haltiner, on August 12, 1976. Together, they raised their family in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Before her marriage to Herb, Sally was married to William Paul, with whom she had three children: Kevin, William, and Laurie. Sally's talents were many, but she particularly excelled as a gifted seamstress and crafter. She possessed the rare ability to replicate anything from memory, always creating treasures that would bring joy to others. Her love for cooking and baking—especially German cuisine—was renowned, and she often shared her culinary delights with family and friends. Sally enjoyed fishing, dancing, socializing in Deadwood, and made many fond memories at the Moose Lodge in Lead. Her greatest joy, however, was her family. Sally leaves behind her husband of 49 years, Herb Haltiner, her children Kevin Paul, William (Dawn) Paul, Laurie (Ronnie) Johnston, and Michael (Nicole) Haltiner. Cherished grandchildren, Haley Collins, Sara DeGroot, Marcus Berger, Casey Johnston, Trevor Johnston, Addison Paul, eight precious great-grandchildren; Siblings, Eugene Fischer, William Fischer (Lupe Lopez), Diane Beck, Darlene Fischer (Jim Phillips), Robert Fischer, Gary Fischer, and Marilyn (Dean) Schell. Family was her pride and joy, and her love for them was boundless and unconditional. Sally's legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will forever be cherished by her extended family, including her numerous nieces and nephews, and the countless friends she made along her journey. Her life was a testament to the beauty of connection and the power of a welcoming heart. Her parents: Adam and Clara Fischer; brothers: Kenny Fischer, Donnie Fischer; son: Jason Haltiner, grandson: Joseph Johnston and brother in laws and sister in laws predeceased her, and we find solace in knowing they are reunited now. As we say goodbye to our dear Sally, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with joy, laughter, and love. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Rest in peace, dear Sally. Your light will forever shine in our hearts.
