It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mamie Merriweather, a cherished soul and beloved matriarch, who departed this world peacefully on May 22, 2026, at the age of 85. Mamie was born on October 4, 1940, in Champaign, Illinois, to Marion and Cliff Morton, who have since preceded her in death along with her two brothers and one sister. Her life was a testament to resilience, love, and unwavering faith. Mamie was a devoted wife to Frank Donald Merriweather, whom she married in August of 1947. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, creating a legacy that lives on in their children: sons Donald, Dwayne, and Jerry Merriweather, and daughters Ann, Patsy Mamie, and Latoya Merriweather. Mamie’s nurturing spirit extended to her 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored immensely. Her family was the centerpiece of her life, and her home was always open to those who needed comfort and care. A faithful member of the Grove Street Church Of God In Christ, Mamie was a beacon of light in her community. Her commitment to her faith and her church was unwavering, and she found great joy in serving others. Her congregation was a second family to her, and she took great pride in being a part of such a loving and supportive community. Mamie had a passion for cooking, a skill she perfected over the years, bringing people together with her delicious meals and generous spirit. She was known for her open heart and listening ear, always taking the time to offer solace and understanding to anyone in despair. Her kindness knew no bounds, and her legacy of compassion will continue to inspire those she left behind. A service to celebrate Mamie’s life will be held on May 30, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Grove Street Church Of God In Christ, located at 501 E Grove St, Champaign, IL 61820. Family, friends, and all whose lives Mamie touched are invited to join in remembering and honoring her remarkable life.
