October 18, 1995 — June 18, 2026
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Makenzie Rose Stixrud, who left this world on June 18, 2026, at the age of 30. Makenzie, lovingly known as Kenzie, passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, Washington, surrounded by her cherished family and friends.
Makenzie was born on October 18, 1995, in Madison, Mississippi, to her devoted parents, Karen Sue Lake and James Michael Lake, who instilled in her a love for life and a kindness that she carried throughout her days. She was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew her, a testament to the love and warmth she received from her family.
Kenzie’s journey was marked by remarkable achievements and a deep love for those around her. A proud graduate of Denver High School's class of 2014, Kenzie went on to serve her country with honor in the United States Air Force from 2014 to 2016. Her adventurous spirit and dedication led her to pursue a career in aviation. Starting as a flight attendant with Frontier Airlines, she rose through the ranks at American Airlines and ultimately fulfilled her dream of becoming a captain with Alaska Airlines. Her passion for flying was matched only by her love for her pink Barbie Jeep and piloting her Cessna airplane.
Nine years ago, fate brought Kenzie and her soulmate, Michael Ray Stixrud, together at the Denver Airport. Their love story blossomed, leading to their marriage on January 25, 2023. They built a beautiful life in Puyallup, Washington, where they welcomed their precious daughter, Madeleine Stixrud, who was the light of Kenzie’s life. Kenzie was a devoted mother, an extraordinary wife, and a steadfast friend. Her heart was pure, her spirit was indomitable, and her love knew no bounds.
Kenzie is survived by her loving husband, Michael; their treasured daughter, Madeleine; her sister, Abigale Lake; her best friend, Trista Ripplinger; her dear friends Krista; and her supportive father-in-law, Tom Holt, and Uncle-in-law, Randy Holt. She forged friendships that became family, and her legacy of kindness and compassion will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
To Kenzie, family was everything. She was known for her sweet nature, always ready with open arms to support and uplift those around her. Her laughter was infectious, her generosity boundless, and her love, unwavering. Her family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Central Pierce Fire Department for their professionalism and to the staff at Good Samaritan Hospital for their unwavering support during this difficult time.
As we say goodbye to our beloved Kenzie, we remember a woman whose life was a testament to love, friendship, and adventure. Though she has departed from this world, her spirit will forever soar in the skies she loved so much. In our hearts, she will always remain a wonderful person, a great friend, an amazing wife, and a wonderful mother.
A private service celebrating Kenzie’s remarkable life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Kenzie’s name, so that her legacy of love can continue to touch lives.
Rest in peace, dear Kenzie. You will forever be loved, cherished, and remembered.
