It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Makayla Thompkins, cherished daughter, devoted mother, beloved sister, and treasured friend. Makayla departed this world on April 29, 2026, at the age of 36. Born on June 10, 1989, in the vibrant city of San Antonio, Texas, she graced our lives with her presence, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. Makayla was the beloved daughter of Joan Thompkins and the late Bennie Thompkins. Her spirit was as vibrant as the Texas sun, and her personality was a unique blend of humor, honesty, and boundless compassion. She was a woman who spoke her truth with a candidness that was both refreshing and endearing, always ready to share a laugh or a piece of wisdom with those around her. A proud graduate of Gateway High School, Makayla furthered her education at Forest Park, where she spent two years nurturing her intellect and exploring her passions. For the past seven years, she dedicated herself to her role as a dental assistant. Her colleagues and patients alike appreciated her diligent work ethic and her ability to make everyone feel at ease with her warmth and genuine care. Makayla's life was enriched by the love of her family. She is survived by her loving mother, Joan Thompkins; her dear sister, Tasha Thompkins; and her precious daughter, Nicole Thompkins, who was the light of her life and the center of her universe. She also leaves behind her nieces, Haley and Hannah Johnson, and her nephew, Jayvon Johnson, who will forever cherish the joyful memories they shared with their beloved aunt. Makayla's passing is felt deeply by those who knew her. Her absence leaves an irreplaceable void, but her legacy of honesty, humor, and compassion will continue to inspire and guide those she left behind. In honoring her memory, we are reminded to cherish each moment, speak our truths, and care for one another with the same generosity that Makayla always did. A private funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate Makayla's life, honoring her in a manner befitting the beautiful soul she was. The family requests privacy as they mourn the loss of their beloved Makayla and adjust to life without her comforting presence. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to mental health organizations in Makayla's name, to honor her life and to help those in need find hope and support. Though Makayla's journey was cut tragically short, her spirit will forever remain alive in the hearts of those who loved her. May she find the peace she so richly deserves and may her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
