Mae stone
February 17, 1926 — March 8, 2026
Mae Stone, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, gracefully transitioned from this life on March 8, 2026. Born on February 17, 1926, in Yazoo, Mississippi, Mae lived a life full of love, service, and unwavering faith, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew her.
Mae was the cherished daughter of J.T. Clark and Wade Smith, who instilled in her the values of kindness and resilience. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving son Melton Stone Jr., and her dear daughter Denice Stone. Mae was reunited with her late husband, Melton Stone Sr., whom she was married to for 45 wonderful years until his passing. Together, they built a family and a life filled with love and laughter.
Mae is survived by her devoted children: Corine Stone (Curlie), Mae Steele (Eddie), and Gloria (Larry). Her family was the center of her universe, and her spirit lives on in her 12 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy and pride. Her legacy of love and compassion will undoubtedly continue to flourish through them.
For over two decades, Mae dedicated herself to caring for others as a nurse at Methodist Hospital. Her career was cut short due to an unfortunate stroke that left her paralyzed, but even in the face of adversity, Mae never ceased to be a beacon of light. Her resilience and unwavering positivity inspired everyone she encountered.
Mae found great solace and community at Greater First Baptist Church in Gary, Indiana, where she was a devoted member under the leadership of Rev. Michael Barnes. Serving on the usher board, Mae greeted all with her trademark bright smile and warm hugs, embodying a spirit of hospitality and grace that was truly contagious.
A woman of deep faith and boundless generosity, Mae's outgoing spirit touched the lives of many. She was a constant source of comfort and joy, offering warmth and understanding to all who crossed her path. Her memory will be cherished by her family, friends, and church community, who will forever remember her as a pillar of strength and love.
A service to celebrate Mae's remarkable life will be held on March 21, 2026, at 11:30 AM at Guy & Allen Funeral Home, located at 2959 W 11th Ave, Gary, IN 46404. Family, friends, and all whose lives Mae touched are invited to join in honoring her memory and celebrating the beautiful life she lived.
Mae Stone's life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and resilience. As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that her spirit will continue to shine brightly in our hearts, reminding us to live with the same grace and compassion that she exemplified every day.
