Maddie Green

February 18, 1940 β€” July 5, 2026

Maddie Green, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, surrounded by her devoted family. Born on February 18, 1940, in Little Rock, Arkansas, Maddie spent her formative years in the South before making Oakland, California, her true home. Her journey through life was marked by compassion, warmth, and a dedication to family. The daughter of Marie C. Green and Jonas Henry Burns, Maddie was the heart of her family, a beacon of love and resilience. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene Battle Sr., and her two sons Raymond Battle and Gene Battle Jr. Maddie's life was a tapestry woven with the threads of love, dedication, and an unyielding spirit. She shared her life with her husband, Gene Battle Sr., and together they built a family of their own. She is survived by her loving children, Debra Battle, Timothy Battle, and Kay Battle, who will continue to honor her legacy with the same love and care she bestowed upon them. Her sister, Angeleen C. Green, and sister-in-law, Maggie Battle-Smith, stood by her side through every chapter, sharing in the joys and challenges that life offered. Maddie's legacy is further enriched by her 23 grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of her spirit and love for life. Maddie's home was always filled with the aroma of something delicious cooking, as she had a remarkable talent for creating meals that brought people together. Her passion for cooking was matched only by her love of history and movies, which she enjoyed studying and watching with a curious and open heart. Known for her kindness and generosity, Maddie had an innate ability to make everyone feel at home. Her laughter and warmth were infectious, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we gather to celebrate the life of Maddie Green, we remember her as a woman of strength, grace, and unwavering love. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, sustaining them with the knowledge that her legacy of kindness and love will never fade. Rest in peace, dear Maddie. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
