In Loving Memory

Mack D. Henderson, Jr.
January 2, 1946 — August 15, 2026
Mack D. Henderson, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 15, 2026. Born on January 2, 1946, in Philadelphia, PA, Mack was the cherished son of the late Mack D. Henderson, Sr. and Roberta Henderson. He was predeceased by his brothers James, Warren, and Bopete, his sister Wanda, and his brother-in-law Kelvin Hook.
Mack's life was a tapestry rich with love, laughter, and dedication. He was educated in the Philadelphia School System and proudly served his country as a paratrooper in the US Army from 1965 to 1967. After his service, he embarked on a career that began at Woodhaven/ARA Foods as a forklift operator before he found his calling at the US Post Office. Mack retired in 2012 after 28 proud years as a mail carrier.
In 2019, Mack's path once again crossed with Katherine, a dear friend from the past. Their rekindled relationship blossomed into a beautiful partnership, and they were married on October 16, 2021. Together, they shared countless simple joys—dining at Olive Garden, enjoying long car rides, and cherishing time with their pets, Benji and Buster. Mack's affection for Katherine was unwavering; he lovingly called her his "Sunshine" and made sure she felt cherished every day.
Mack's devotion extended beyond his family to his community and church. A faithful member of Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church, he embraced his faith wholeheartedly, finding strength and solace in his spirituality. His laughter was known to light up any room, often so infectious that it was hard for him to finish telling a funny story without laughter interrupting. Mack’s warm spirit and caring heart touched everyone he met.
A man of varied interests, Mack was an avid gardener with a knack for growing fruits, vegetables, herbs, and beautiful flowers. His passion for gardening was so renowned that he was once humorously mistaken for his daughter Deitra's gardener. His love for the earth was mirrored in his nurturing spirit towards his family and friends.
Mack leaves behind a legacy of love and joy, survived by his devoted wife Katherine, his daughter Deitra Dickerson, a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brothers Gordy, Gregory, and Larry, sister Cynthia Adams, and brother-in-law Henry Adams. Though he is no longer with us, the love he shared will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew him.
A service celebrating Mack's life will be held on September 4, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church, 230 W. Coulter Street, Philadelphia, PA 19144. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting Mack's generous spirit and love for helping others.
The Henderson family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered words of comfort, support, and prayers during this difficult time. Mack's spirit will forever echo in the laughter and love that he brought into the world.
