It is with great sadness and profound love that we announce the passing of Lydia Ann Spencer Strong, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Born on August 26, 1967, in the vibrant heart of New York City, Lydia peacefully departed this life on May 5, 2026, surrounded by the warmth and comfort of her home.
Lydia was the beloved daughter of the late Audrey and Clara Spencer, who instilled in her a sense of kindness and resilience that she carried throughout her life. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Kelvin Strong, her siblings Jessie and Michael, and her niece and nephew, Tammie and Kareem. Their memories now live on through the stories and hearts of those she left behind.
Lydia’s legacy is lovingly continued by her three sons, Kenneth, Gerard, and Donnell, and her two daughters, Toniquea and Tonisha, who were the pride and joy of her life. Her family was her world, and she embraced her role as a nurturing mother with open arms. Lydia's love extended beyond her immediate family to her godson, Dashawn, whom she cherished deeply.
As a grandmother to 13 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to one, Lydia's home was often filled with the laughter and joy of her cherished little ones. Her family will forever hold onto the fond memories of her gentle spirit and the warmth of her embrace.
Lydia was a dedicated caregiver, having served many years in the healthcare field as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She received her CNA license from Progressive Healthcare Services and devoted her career to caring for others with compassion and dignity. Her patients, along with her colleagues, benefitted greatly from her dedication and kindness, which made a lasting impact on all those she encountered.
In her personal life, Lydia was known for her sharp wit and bright smile that could light up any room. Her love for watching "Law and Order" and playing the slot machines brought her joy and relaxation. Lydia had a unique love language that spoke directly to the hearts of those who knew her well.
Later in life, Lydia found companionship and love with John Hunter. Together, they made a warm and loving home in Newport News, Virginia, where they shared cherished moments and built beautiful memories.
Lydia is survived by her six sisters, Bettie (Eddie), Linda (Anthony), Yvette, Alice, Katherine, and Cynthia, and her four brothers, Leonard, Gregory (Doris), Lewis, and Kenneth. Her siblings were her lifelong companions and friends, and their bond was unbreakable.
