In Loving Memory of Ly. June
February 11, 1950 - June 13, 2026
With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved Ly. June, who departed from this world on June 13, 2026. Born in Bay Shore, New York, on February 11, 1950, to Herbert and Dorothy Wagenhauser, Ly. lived a life rich in love, kindness, and service.
From her early years in Bay Shore, Ly. demonstrated an unwavering commitment to education and community. She graduated from Bay Shore High School in 1968 and pursued her passion for teaching by earning a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Hofstra University in 1972. Her degree was a testament to her dedication to nurturing young minds and laid the foundation for a career that would touch countless lives.
Ly. found joy and fulfillment in her role at Saint Peter's Church in Columbia, Tennessee, where she supervised the nursery. She was not only a caregiver but a beacon of warmth and laughter, known for her bright smile and the adventurous tales she would share. Her genuine love for storytelling and her willingness to lend a helping hand were qualities that endeared her to all who knew her.
Married to Richard June on May 15, 2004, Ly. embraced the joys and challenges of blending their families with grace and love. Together, they nurtured a family of five children: Thomas Liesegang, Timothy Liesegang, Jennifer June, and Richard's children, creating a home filled with love and laughter. Her family expanded further with two cherished grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Grandma June," a testament to the love she gave and the love she received.
In 2013, Ly. and Richard retired to Tennessee, where they formed a deep bond with Sarah and Travis Groth, becoming an integral part of their lives. Ly.'s nurturing spirit extended beyond her family as she became a devoted volunteer, serving her community as a Meals on Wheels driver for over 15 years. Her dedication to her church was unwavering; she was an active member of the Altar Guild, Outreach, Eucharistic Visitor, and Parish Life committees at Saint Peter's Episcopal Church.
Ly. had a special affinity for animals, with a home that welcomed all rescue pets, from a robin to Wyatt the dog. Her love for animals was matched by her love for stories, whether found in the pages of a book or discovered in the world of Netflix later in life.
A service to celebrate Ly.'s remarkable life will be held at Saint Peter's Episcopal Church, located at 311 West 7th Street, Columbia, TN. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Saint Peter's Episcopal Church, honoring Ly.'s legacy of service and community.
The family of Ly. extends heartfelt gratitude for your prayers, support, and kindness during this time. We find solace in knowing that "those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard, but always near, so loved, so missed, so very dear."
Thank you for your kindness, prayers, and support during this difficult time. As we remember Ly., your support has brought us comfort. We are deeply grateful for your presence and love.
Ly. June's memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her, as her spirit continues to inspire us all.
