LUIS DESCAIRE
April 19, 1947 — October 8, 2026
Luis Descaire, an extraordinary soul, left this world peacefully on October 8, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on April 19, 1947, in the vibrant city of Barcelona, Spain, Luis's life was a testament to dedication, love, and perseverance.
Luis's early years were marked by academic brilliance. He graduated as valedictorian from La Salle High School in Panama at the tender age of 15. His thirst for knowledge led him to George Washington University in Washington, DC, where he graduated as valedictorian with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1980. His academic journey, marked by excellence, was achieved while he worked full-time at the World Bank—a testament to his incredible work ethic and determination.
In 1970, Luis married the love of his life, Milka V. Descaire, first in the United States on May 15, and then in Panama on August 1. Together, they built a beautiful life over 56 cherished years of marriage. Luis was a devoted father to their three sons, Luis Eduardo, Jorge Enrique, and Juan Carlos Descaire, and a loving grandfather to seven grandchildren: Luis Aidan, Isabel, Julia, Laia Sofia, Jordi Enric, Juan Alejandro, and Gabriella. For Luis, family was paramount, and he always prioritized his loved ones, ensuring he was home every evening to spend precious time with them.
Luis's career at the World Bank was marked by respect and admiration from his colleagues. His dedication, commitment, and sense of responsibility were cornerstones of his professional life, inspiring those around him. Yet, it was his family who always held the center of his universe.
A man of many interests, Luis loved playing soccer, tennis, and golf, and taking long walks in his neighborhood. He enjoyed the arts, frequenting movies, and watching soccer games on TV. Entertaining family and friends with joyous lunches and dinners was a joy for him, and he found great pleasure in cruising the world after retirement.
Luis is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Luis and Josefa de Descaire, and his sister, Narcisa Descaire. He leaves behind a legacy of love, adventure, and unwavering commitment that will be cherished by those who knew him.
A service to honor Luis's remarkable life will be held on October 23, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, located at 11900 Lawyers Road, Reston, VA 20191. The family kindly requests that donations in Luis's memory be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, an organization close to his heart.
