It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Luevina Green, who departed this earthly realm on June 13, 2026, at the age of 98. Born on May 20, 1928, in Livingston, Alabama, in the nurturing embrace of Sumter County, Luevina was the cherished daughter of Sam and Mariah Green. She spent her formative years in the warm embrace of family and community, where she first glimpsed the virtues of hard work, resilience, and faith that would guide her throughout her remarkable life. Luevina was a beacon of love and dedication, profoundly devoted to raising her children and nurturing her family. Though the challenges of her era were many, she stood resilient, her unwavering spirit leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. She was predeceased by her siblings, Ida Green, Alice Green, Joseph Green, Ananias Green, Henry Green, Lucinda Evans, Paralee Bowden, Elnora Green, Carrie Jones, and Jeff Green, who surely welcomed her with open arms into the celestial beyond. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her cherished children: Roscoe Jones, Alma Reddick, Curtis Green, Willie Sam Green, Pasty Stahl, and Debra Gatewood, along with her devoted siblings Harry Green and Josephine Scales. Her family blossomed with 26 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, each carrying forward the torch of her wisdom and love. Educated at Zion Hill School, Luevina's learning extended beyond the classroom, as she mastered life's teachings through hard work and a steadfast commitment to her values. Her hands were those of a gifted seamstress, crafting beautiful garments that reflected her creativity and care. She shared her warmth and talent as a waitress at the Coffee Cup Cafeteria and as a talented baker, spreading love with each dish she prepared. Her skills as a dedicated hairdresser brought joy and confidence to many, and her role as Secretary of Mount Nebo Primitive Baptist Church exemplified her steadfast commitment to faith and community. Luevina was a proud member of the Women in White, finding joy and solace in her church activities. Her passions included sewing, cooking, keeping a warm and welcoming home, and dedicating herself to the service of others. Her life was a testament to kindness, service, and unyielding love. A celebration of Luevina's life will be held on July 11, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the John Wesley AME Zion Church, located at 28001 Evergreen Road, Southfield, MI 48076. Here, family and friends will gather to honor her memory, sharing stories of her enduring spirit and the light she brought into their lives. As we remember Luevina Green, we hold close the lessons she imparted—of love, faith, resilience, and the importance of family.
