Luella Babers Jones

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Luella Babers Jones, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left this world on August 13, 2026. Born on May 6, 1956, in Montgomery, Alabama, Luella was the cherished daughter of the late Mattie A Babers and Charles Rogers. Luella's life was a testament to love, strength, and dedication. She graduated from Georgia Washington High School on May 17, 1974, and went on to touch countless lives throughout her career and personal endeavors. For 20 years, Luella served as a dietitian at Capitol Hill nursing home, where her compassion and care left a lasting impact. Following her retirement, she devoted herself to caring for her elderly family members and later embraced hospitality, working at Rolling Lakes Golf Community for seven years. A woman of deep faith, Luella was an active member of Eastern Star and served as a deaconess at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church. Her commitment to her community and church was unwavering, and she brought love and light to all those around her. Luella had a passion for gardening, and her remarkable green thumb transformed her garden into a vibrant sanctuary filled with roses, carnations, orchids, tulips, peace lilies, and ferns. Her garden was a reflection of the beauty she cultivated in her life and the lives of others. Luella was predeceased by her parents; her son, Keondrick Fanez Jones; her sisters, Vida Mae Cox, Etheleen Cox, and Clara Streeter; her brother, James Rogers; her nephew, Michael Cox; and her grandmother, Arrethia Williams. Her family finds solace in knowing she is now reunited with those she loved so dearly. She is survived by her three daughters, Maniqua (Andra) Steele of Montgomery, AL, Jaquise Jones of Savannah, GA, and Latera Jones of Duluth, GA; her four brothers, Clinton, Albert, Wilbur, and Johnnie Babers, all of Montgomery, AL; and her nine grandchildren, Amaya Steele, Amarian Steele, Deandrae Jones Steele, Andra Steele Jr., Tamareo Matthews, Zaddarius Jones, Marquevious Matthews, Jacory Owens, and Zakaylyn Owens, all of Montgomery, AL. Blessed with three great-grandchildren, Xen Angel Warren Jones, Rain Amena Jones of Montgomery, AL, and Infinity Serenity Jones of Las Vegas, NV, Luella's legacy of love will continue to thrive through them. Luella is also survived by her goddaughter, Alecia Frazier of Teasly Mills, AL; her devoted cousin, Arrethia Williams; her dear friends, Dixie Boykins and Delores Merriweather of Montgomery, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish her memory. A service to celebrate Luella's life will be held on August 22, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Elizabeth Baptist Church, located at 15617 Troy Hwy, Mathews, AL 36052. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the critical care team at Baptist Medical Center South for their tremendous care and support during this difficult time. They also wish to express their heartfelt thanks to everyone for their texts, phone calls, words of encouragement, and prayers. In honor of Luella's generous spirit, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice. Her memory will forever remain in our hearts, and her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her.
